Jesus hearts P's

vintage postcards

This is an uncommon French Easter vintage postcard complete with daisies and flying bells! I wonder why Jesus' face didn't get put in the big letter P. Isn't it his big day? Shouldn't his gentle face gaza at us from the beginning capital?

Poisson D'Avril and Taj Majal

vintage postcards

This Poisson d'Avril vintage postcard reminds me of my dear Daddy-o who took me fishing every weekend when the weather warmed up! My Pop has an amazing singing voice and is quite the whistler. As we fished he would always sing this little diddy from Taj Majal. I swaer that the fish bit better when he did!

Wine Cask Hotel Rooms!

vintage postcards

These snug as a bug hotel rooms in Stavoren are made out of recycled wine casks! Aren't they Hobbity? They once held 14,000 liters of yummy wine...... hiccup! I wonder what they smell like inside and if you would dream of Dionysus at night?

Tu Nous Les Casses!

vintage postcards

We bought the sweetest little hamster yesterday! The boys named her Rosie and are very happy campers. She just figured out how to use her wheel so it's squeaking away as I type:)

This reminds me of my college years! A French friend of mine (Cyril!) always had trouble pronouncing his h's when speaking English. The letter is silent in French so it's extremely diffucult to say. I used to always make him repeat the sentence : Harry the hamster is going to hell! It always made us die laughing. I miss him!

Postcard Friendship Friday - Tour de France in Saint Fargeau!

vintage postcards

The 3,500 kilometer Tour de France will be passing through Saint Fargeau this year! My little town is buzzing with activity. The main drag of road has just been repaved! The shiny black ribbon of asphalt doesn't really match the rest of the town but.... I zipped my bike down it this morning. It was thrilling! vintage postcards

Poisson D'Avril - April Fool's in France

vintage postcards
April Fool's Day in France is a fishy fête called Poisson D'Avril (April's Fish)! It's celebrated by trying to sneakingly tape fish cutouts onto the backs of your friends. I celebrated by eating a nice salmon steak smothered in a creamy lemon - dill sauce.

C'est Caca Boudin!

vintage postcards
.
This has my vote for the ugliset postcard ever printed! This is a boudin noir sausage. It has a meat, blood, and apple filling. My son has started saying... C'est caca boudin (That's a poo sausage)... to anything and everything he doesn't like. This has turned into a disgusting post! Boys are so weird. This phrase is all the rage among 6 year old boys. Yuck!

Royal Opera Café Vintage Postcard

vintage postcards

Come sit and monkey around with me at the Royal Opera Café in Paris! This is still a hot spot for coffee guzzling Parisians. The interiour is sumptiously decorated and hasn't changed a bit in 100 years... except for the wifi:)

Japan's Cat Cafés

vintage postcards
Cat cafés are popping up all over Tokyo, Japan! Feline fanciers pay by the hour to sip tea and play with a kitty. Many people simply don't have the time or space to properly take care of a pet. They are flocking to these cafés in order to fill a very base need.

I think this is such a marevelous idea! In France many shops and restaurants have resident pets. My hairdresser has a pooch that sits on my lap and snuggles while I get my haircut! Would you go to a cat, dog, or hamster café if one opened in your town?

La Vie en Violette

wedding vintage postcards
Josephine Beauharnais wore violets in her hair when she married her little Nappy Bonaparte. She also had her dress emboidered with her favorite purple flower. Her devotion to this delicate blossom didn't stop there. Her favourite perfume was.. .. violet too! Isn't this wedding vintage postcard dreamy?

Dublin, Ireland Post Box - Postcard Friendship Friday

vintage postcards

The lovely Con over at blogaire.blogspot.com sent me this gem! He wrote, "These Post Boxes predate Irish Independence and you can see the British Monarch's Crown on it. After the Irish Free State was set up after 1922 the cash strapped government couldn't afford new boxes so the just painted the red British ones green!" vintage postcards

Crêpes and Apple Cider

vintage postcards

I just got back from a darling little crêpe restaurant! I had a savoury ham, cheese and potato filled buckwheat crêpe topped with salad and a fried egg! I was a bit shocked the first time I saw a sunny side up egg staring up at me from my plate. It's a delicious combination though!

These little vintage postcard chickadees are drinking cider.. hiccup! The little 'Breton' (someone from Brittany) is holding a crêpe in his hand:) I used a fork myself!

Glam 40's Hair Tutorial

vintage postcards

I was watching Rita Hayworth movie clips on Youtube and then randomly fell on a 40's hairstyle tutorial! I couldn't believe how easy it was to realize a glam updo! I watched the tutorial, twisted it up, slapped on some red lipstick and felt like the cat's meow! Francois even said that he like my hair:) That just about gave me a heartattack! vintage postcards

Casting an eyeball on this video will run you a good ten minutes. But.... you could bookmark it and watch it later too:) The cutie patootie girl who made the video has a blog too! She seems like such a sweetheart!:)

Vintage Postcard Pillow!

vintage postcards

Goodnight! I'm going to cuddle up to this vintage postcard pillow that I found at Flax and Spindle. What a wonderful idea! The card was printed on cotton fabric and than handstitched to the linen 'oreiller' The vintage card is post marked Dec. 22, 1914 and includes a 1 cent US stamp! The handwriting really creams my coffee too!

I would love this in RED though. I'm going to write the seller and see if that's possible. I'll keep you updated!

Postcard Friendship Friday - Easter Bells

vintage postcards

French children don’t look for eggs left by an Easter Bunny… rather, the kiddies believe that bells fly to Rome to see the Pope. After the Papal soirée the airborne ding-dongers head back bearing chocolate eggs and other goodies! (I am completely serious) I just bought a big package of foiled covered chocolate Easter bells! Yummy:)

Transantlantic Steamer 'Paris'

vintage postcards

The Youtube video is a hoot! It's short and has a VERY funny twist at the end!

The Paris was a 34,369 ton French ocean liner built in 1913 for the Compagnie Transatlantique. The champagne bottle busting maiden voyage was a post World War I event of 1921. That's quite a delay!

The Paris was the first steamer to have square first class stateroom windows as opposed to those unposh portholes:) Telephones were also an added luxury in select rooms. It was a floating bit of France itself!

My French Vintage Wedding

vintage postcards

Helppppp! I need advice! I don't want a foofy huge wedding dress. I found this one online but am not sure if it has enough razzmatazz! It is certainly elegant yet retains a perky, spring - in - your - step charm. What do you think? Should I order this one?
