vintage palmolive
My parents don't have a dishwasher here (oy!) That means that I've been scrubbing mountains of dasterdly dishes with emerald green Palmolive soap. The original sudsy stuff was made with both palm and olive oil......hence the name! In 1927 the company sponsored a critically acclaimed radio concert show called 'The Palmolive Hour.' It's on youtube! I'm going to listen to it while I do the dinner dishes:)

What a cool old ad! Art deco? Yes?
We don't have a dishwasher in our house and we still use Palmolive. lol
I didn't know they still made Palmolive soap? I was in Spain recently and my friend Rusty who is from the UK and is 81 has the shops there demented - he keeps looking for Palmolive soap. I didn't actually know it was made with olives(thank you Marie!), they grow them by the billions in Spain, so maybe Rusty could make his own!
Love the ad - bet you those guys were more popular than The Killers in their day!
Honolulu made me smile - it reminded me of Steve Mc Garrett - "Book 'im Danno".
Palmolive reminds me of my grandma, she loved that stuff! It has a very distinctive smell that always reminds me of her. Thanks for the lovely music, I played it while I was loading the dishwasher!
Sorry...couldn't resist!!

"You're soaking in it!" "Oh, Madge..."
They also did "Palmolive Beauty Box Theater" for a few years during the '30s, which was more of a playhouse-style program than a variety show. I think you can still find some shows online.
Wow...I don't remember that so it must be old!
Enjoy a Totally Tremendous Thursday!!!
I have a dishwaher and I use german soap very effective.
When i want very younger I use Palmolive or Luxe soap.
The 'Oh Madge' commercials were aired internationally too! They changed her name to Tilly in Germany and Marie in France:)
Isn't it amazing how much time that takes, doing dishes that is. I'm surprised your boys don't want to help. You'll have dishpan hands by the time you get back to Paris.
My dishwasher died on me about ten months ago, and I have no desire to buy a new one. I kind of enjoy doing them by hand. As a matter of fact, I'm off to do some now!
We always used Palmolive growing up. I always got in trouble for using too much.
Washing dishes is so relaxing ... its the drying that I dislike
Marie, I found a sweet greeting card someone sent me recently. I love your Palmolvive commercial! :)
I love this artistic style. Someday I'm going to learn how to do it! What a lovely advertisement.
Thank you for sharing, Marie! By the way, Dad is doing better. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.
((hugs))
I never knew that's how they got the name Palmolive! I'll have to listen to the clip later...it looks awesome! ~Lori
Howdy Marie
Wow what a beautiful vintage ad .
I have a dishwasher for the first time in almost 30 years .
My son had to show me how to use it :0
I just got back home and am getting back to blogland to visit all you awesome persons I missed .
Hope your having a wonderful day !
Happy Trails
Big Hugs
I never knew where they got the name either. But I do believe that the sort of continuing drama serial, probably on air daily for 15 minutes are called "soap operas" because they were sponsored by brands of soap.
This is such a vintage card !!!
That just sounds wishy washy to me. [LOL!!!] :)
My parents never had a dishwasher either...instead they had 3 daughters!
There can be too many dishes if you can do them in less than four minutes. Beside, Marge the manicurist says it's good for your hands.
I dont have a dishwasher and I use palmolive. Its always been one of my favourite soaps and one of the few Im not allergic too. I didnt realise it had been around so long X
Interesting post, Marie!
I use the Palmolive shaving soap! :-)
My parents and my hubby's parents never had a dishwasher (I take that back...hubby was on permanent groundings growing up...his aunties would call the house and he would be the first one to answer the phone, which was by the sink, and they would say, "...grounded again?"-his "penance time" included dish washing duties...this is so true haha... but I must say, he still is a stellar dish washer with all those years of practice!)
Love the art deco ad and the music clip, esp hearing the "crinkly, swishy" effects of the old time recording.
I used to love the smell of palmolive soap. So many memories wrapped up in that aroma.
Intriguing post my darling and happy Sweet Pea Monday to you.
Duchess xx
My dishwasher is HORRIBLE and I have been just washing them MYSELF!! And yes, I am using palmolive.....
My dishwasher is one of my best friends - can't live without it!! :)
Love the old advertisements that you've shown. ♥
