Peanut Ointment and Jelly Sandwich

O Canada! Peanut butter was invented by Mr. Marcellus Gilmore Edson of Montreal, Quebec! He described  his new product as having '' a consistency like that of butter, lard, or ointment.''   A peanut lard and jelly sandwich doesn't have quite the same appetizing ring to it. This food pioneer might get a kick out of knowing that the average American will have eaten 1,500 of the sandwiches before graduating from high school!

EWWWW Peanut Lard?! Sounds nasty, but our household sure loves peanut butter! So thankful he came up with the idea! Cute postcard!

Ah yes. And if you ask a Frenchman or a Frenchwoman they will insist that it still is like ointment. :D

Very cute postcard!

I've never liked PB & Jelly though - just a plain PB sandwich once in a blue moon, as I'm an odd girl. :)

Was his wife named Beverly? What happened to Beverly Peanut Butter?

Yes, the French do not like peanut butter, but the Serbs love it, though it isn't sold here.

I'll take mine straight, without the jelly, and preferably on crackers.

Nice, but unfortunately I don't like peanut butter.

But I like the postcard. Are you allowed to do that, like the postcard and not its product?

Of all the exports from the USA, peanut butter sandwiches just don't seem to have caught on in Europe in the same way as other things have.

Oh, come on Marie! You've been known to eat lard scooped right out of the bucket - no jam, no bread, nada except the lard! «Louis» knows that rumor is true because he started it himself!

We've been giving George Washington Carver credit for this invention for ever. Hmmmmm there's a fly in the ointment!
