vintage postcards

Undersized Emperor?

vintage postcards

Napoleon was not an undersized emperor! He was neither short nor sweet. He was actually a bit taller than the average Corsican of the 19th century. The diminuative size Napoleon is so noted for was just a miscalculation.

After his death in 1821, the French emperor's height was recorded as 5 feet 2 inches in French feet. (BUTTTTTTTT)This corresponds to roughly 5 feet 7 inches in Imperial (British) feet, or 1.686 meters

Creepy Halloweeny Poisonous Platypus

vintage postcards

Male platypuses (platypi) are poisonous! They have sharp stingers on the heels of their rear feet and can use them to deliver a strong toxic blow to any foe. I had always thought of them as being so cuddly wuddly in a far out down under sort of way! vintage postcards

Vintage Orangina

vintage postcards

Orangina started life as Naranjina and was presented at the 1936 Marseille Trade Fair by its Spanish inventor, chemist Dr. Trigo. The original recipe included lemon juice. It was later changed because of it's tartness! I just love the vibrant colours:) vintage postcards

Halloween Vintage Postcard

vintage postcards

I was shocked when Trick or Treaters showed up at my door in Germany 6 years ago! I was candy less! I ended up rummaging through my fridge and giving everyone a yogurt :) I belong to the raisin box and apple giving set of Grandmas! The holiday is slowly but surely trickling here to Europe. I am now armed every year for the 5 or 6 kids who will come. That leaves more candy for me! vintage postcards

Stapler History

vintage postcards

Let's geek out:) The first machine for fastening papers together comes from 18th century France. vintage postcards

It was developed for the exclusive use of King Louis XV . The ornate handmade staples for this device were made of gold and encrusted with jewels. They were also stamped with the royal court's insignia!
